Something's Just Not Quite Right
Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 10:27AM I'm not an overly emotional person. I certainly don't put my emotions on display in a grand way. I've been told I can be read like a book if someone takes the time to look at my face to gauge my reaction to something. That is true. Try as I might, I do not have a poker face. But as far as being a crier or getting sentimental and weepy, that's just not me.
Until this week apparently! Since I've come out of the haze of anesthesia, morphine, and codeine, I have been crying at everything. It's getting to be ridiculous. I cried at all the sweet comments people have left on my blog and fb page. I cry when people are kind and send me cards or bring me meals. For pity's sake, I cried whenI watched Bride Wars! Give me a tear-jerking scene in a movie or commercial, and I'm done in. What in the world?!?
I don't like this. I need it to stop. Now!
I'm no longer feeling like Eeyore (thankfully.) No matter. I started doing some research for next school year. If I can figure out what theme I'm going to use in my room, I can start making lists and plans, and even maybe some of the stuff I'll need. I'm excited! Last year, as many of you know, my class theme was monkeys. This year I've narrowed it down to two choices. Camping or World Travel. The camping one is more fun and easy to decorate the room in. I love to camp, and I have lots of props I could use. Also, I can bring in lots of themed teaching units on the forest, animals, weather, and nature. I like one idea I read that said you call your class "Camp Wannalearnalot." I love it!
The World Travel theme sounds pretty neat too though. I would make different areas of the room different parts of the world. Each child would have a pretend passport and as we learned about different parts of the world they could get their passport stamped. Since I teach in a Christian Academy, I can tie in lots of Biblical applications too! I could teach about transportation, different cultures, and geography. Both seem like something I could get excited about teaching. Also, I'm moving rooms. I'm going from one large room to two smaller rooms connected with a bathroom. So, I need to figure out how to work that out. I have some ideas :)
I'm going to do some more searches today and get some more ideas for both themes. Marissa, my oldest daughter, has already voted for the camping theme. What do you think?

When Amanda was in preK they had a world theme. I kept most of the crafts. One week they "flew" to Hawaii. They spent time "packing" by use brown poster board cut in the shape of a suitcase. Then they went thru magazines & cut out what they wanted to "pack". They lined up their chairs like airplane seats. They "flew" to Hawaii. That day I asked her how the trip was & where were they going the next day. Her reply? "Mom, we are still in Hawaii". Well, duh!
They even crafted some of those "native" boats with the runner on 1 side for somewhere they went that year. And now? While she hasn't been to Hawaii, she has been to Germany, Belgium, & the Netherlands. She has a real passport. She has a heart for mission work. Someday. Maybe.
Don't overdo. Have a quiet day. You will level out with your emotions. It isn't going to happen overnight. Patience! :)

I'd do camping! (But that is because I just did world travel w/ my youngest). We learned the continents, directions, poles, equator, reading maps and globes. We had a passport that helped learn our full name, address, phone... We did suitcases for each continents w/stickers and drawing of the highlights. There is so much it was almost overwhelming!!!
--Camping would be fun especially in the middle of winter to dream about smores.
--Either way Lisa, you'll rock it 'cause you are so creative and a wonderful teacher--a def. God-given gift!!! Please rest and take care of yourself-remember you body is God's temple so it's Ok to let yourself heal and get the rest you NEED!!!--OK!?!?
